Protein Antigens

Complied List of Protein Antigens Viewable on the Site.

Autolysin (LytA)

This secretary enzyme is a hydrolase bound to the cell wall and plays a multitude of roles in the physiological functioning.

This well conserved protein is located on the cell wall and functions to aid in surface binding and pathogen evasion.

Pneumococcal choline-binding
protein A (PcpA)

Bound to the cell wall via a phosphoryl-choline moiety, its expression is largely controlled by manganese-dependant regulators in the host. It functions as an adhesin to epithelial cells.

Pneumococcal surface adhesin A (PsaA)

PsaA is a sub-surface lipoprotein responsible for the transport of Mn2+ and adherence to pneumococci.

Pneumococcal surface protein A (PspA)

Bound to the cell wall, PspA is responsible for inhibiting complement deposition and immune invasion.

Pneumolysin (Ply)

Multi-pass membrane protein which plays many roles including Fc binding, complement fixation and activation, and damaging epithelial cells.

Serine/Threonine Protein Kinase (StkP)

Single-pass transmembrane protein which plays many roles including regulating gene expression, cell wall synthesis and cell wall division.

Histidine triad protein D (PhtD)
